Juana is absolutely instrumental in the day-to-day operations of Alm Hill Gardens and the success of Growing Washington. She is at once calming and forceful, awe-inspiring and captivating. She is also a damn hard worker who has earned a life to be proud of. Burning the candle at both ends of the days for several years, Juana has established herself as a very capable and adaptable farmer and a strong leader among both immigrant and new generation growers.

How should we plant this? Ask Juana. What variety is best? Ask Juana. What task is most important to get done today? Juana knows. Who had the forethought to do that? Oh, probably Juana.

Juana often sets the priorities and agenda on the farm for the day and is a leader in the field making sure that everything gets done. She is also instrumental in helping to administer the planting and harvest schedules for the entire season, and is included in most decision making on the farm.

Juana is the proud mother of five boys and the proud mom to about two dozen new generation farmers. She enjoys expressing her opinion, laughing with the best of them, working until daylight’s gone, and eating fresh tomatoes off the vine.
