Emiliano Garcia
Pace Setter, Field Leader, True Grit

Also known as the toughest man in Whatcom County and the Patron of Alm Hill Gardens, Emiliano is the quintessential Washington farmer. Raised deep in Mexico, he led a migration of amazing farmers north from Michoacán and has served as a guiding light in the NW Washington Latino community ever since. Known for his fresh smile, his contagious laugh, and his irresistible personality, Emiliano is a true leader and gives off a force of positive energy to anyone lucky enough to cross his path.

Emiliano is a critical component to educating Growing Washington’s new generation farmers. When a new farmer arrives on the farm it is customary to have that person work with Emiliano for awhile, both to help the new person feel at home and to educate the new farmer on the intricacies of agriculture that only a person spending decades in the field can share. Emiliano has incredibly fast hands and tells incredibly long stories. He is the type of person who can fix about anything with a stick, a knife and some wire, and would share his delicious lunch or shirt with anyone in need.

When he is not setting the pace at Alm Hill Gardens, Emiliano enjoys old Westerns, going to garage sales, and serving as everyone’s honorary uncle.
