Clayton Burrows
Head Honcho, Proud Gamer, Defier of Linear Time

To carry on the family name, Growing Washington’s esteemed founder and director could have been called Spike Jr. but, when he was born dressed for success, his parents opted for a more classic title- Clayton “No Problem” Burrows. Voted “most likely to be a politician” by his senior class, Clayton is not only ridiculously capable and the only certifiable cowboy genius on this side of the Nooksack, he’s also quite likeable. Along with a bit of organic chicken poo and dolomite lime, Growing Washington is fueled by his unwavering desire to make everyone happy, whether they like it or not. He can cleverly charm support out of anyone then promptly redirect it those who need it the most.

It’s possible that Clayton is actually super human. While the rest of us operate within the limitations of the 24 hour day, he seems to live in another dimension where he can do 100 things simultaneously. Call him at noon on any given day, and he will have already planted a field of broccoli, taught a workshop on organic soil management, submitted a flawless grant application, appeared on a radio talk show, delivered orders to 20 restaurants, driven back and forth between Whatcom and King counties 6 times, and answered 80 emails, all while talking on the phone. And he’s done it all with a carefree demeanor that might make you think he’s actually on vacation.

Despite his knack for instant success, Señor Burrows isn’t all business all the time. Along with not being able to say no to any and all community building projects, it’s also against Clayton’s moral code to say no to some good ol’ fashioned boot stoppin’ and yeehawin’ when opportunity knocks. He could easily make his living playing games, anything from Rochambeau to Rodeo, and looks forward to Growing Washington’s annual Fiesta year-round. He’s a certified silver salesman and is drawn from bed each morning mostly by the hope that today will be the day he runs into Willie Nelson and Cat Stevens (a.k.a. Steven Demetre Georgiou a.k.a. Yusuf Islam) on the street and his life will finally feel complete.

Growing Washington would neither be alive nor as healthy and vibrant without Clayton’s passion and determination… much like his Yorky, Buck Jr., who will be stuffed after his death, poised to fight a king cobra, if all goes as planned.
