Anne Smithdan_waite
Pike Place Manager, Ms. Personality, Resident Bee Keeptress

Anne is known as Ms. Personality at Growing Washington, meaning that she consistently ranks as the most fun person to hang out with. Her animated demeanor and fun disposition make her a favorite both on the farm and at the market. Anne was born in Columbus, OH, but by her third year her dad quit his salaried job, grew a beard, changed his suits for flannel, and moved the family "Up North". She was raised in Traverse City, MI, a quiet resort town on the shores of Lake Michigan, with a one year interlude in Bay Area, CA, and another away at boarding school (discipline problems, we all presume).

Anne obtained a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan, and then moved to the great Northwest (Portland) to seek out new adventures. She moved to Seattle in 2002 and took her first job at Pike Place Market. She immediately fell in love with the crazy market, and enjoyed having the ability to make a living wage while helping to save the planet through marketing organic and sustainably grown foods and flowers.

Anne is excited to help Growing Washington with its many projects, specifically with managing Pike Place Market, using her marketing genius at other neighborhood markets, writing a Seattle Farmer's Market Cookbook, completing other writing projects, becoming staff photographer, and continuing her blossoming bee empire.

In her free time, Anne enjoys sitting around bonfires, staring at the stars, daydreaming, taking pictures, gardening, and telling long-winded, detail oriented stories.

Anne’s dream is to one day own property where she can have bees, chickens, berries, cherries and grapes, all to be funded by her incredibly successful series of self-published travel guides.
