Sustainable Agriculture Program: Farming A Community

Farming A community is the overarching Project title for the work we are doing connecting people and food in Washington State. We consider connecting with restaurants, farmers, individuals, interns, schools, in fact everybody that lives in Washington a part of the farming a community project! Generally we hope to build communities with a greater connection to agriculture in Washington State. Specifically we hope that our programs like Direct to Restaurant delivery of local produce, our coalition of local farmers, and the Growing Whatcom CSA all speak to our method of education.

Some examples of Growing Washington's commitment to sustainable agriculture and sustainable projects:

New Farm at 21 Acres
Just north of the Seattle city center, Growing Washington is partnering with another local non-profit, 21 Acres, and Washington State University to operate a new farm where community education is the focus.
Farm to School Project
Growing Washington is working with local farmers, school districts, students, and parents to create and expand successful and self-sufficient Farm to Cafeteria projects that deliver the freshest and healthiest local farm products to the poorest and most underserved
schools.
Just Food CSA Program
Centered in Whatcom County, Just Food cultivates sponsors in our community to support local agriculture and then redistributes fresh local food to people of low-income and those in homeless/rehabilitation shelters. With local resources pooled together, we simultaneously support local agriculture by providing new and profitable markets for local farms and offer a complete harvest season of food for families and individuals in need!
Local Choice Food Box
Growing Washington's Local Choice Food Box is an innovative new way to eat

CSA is a way to connect to farms all around the King County Region, making
clear to you the local food system you live and eat in. Customers of the
CSA not only support several farms, but they also have the wonderful ability
to CHOOSE what goes into their CSA boxes.
