New Markets

Growing Washington is a project-based non profit operating in Western (and soon Eastern) Washington.  We are dedicated to making a difference in local agriculture and food systems, and we focus our energies on-the-ground, taking strong pride in quickly figuring out that meaningful work does not always have to be glamorous. We are creating new markets between local producers and local consumers that the traditional system has failed to serve, and by saying that “we create” new markets mean that we will help with locating, selling, and even transporting your goods to local outlets.  In addition, we are creating new markets through our projects that might, for instance, provide your farm with profitable opportunities to sell your food to local schools, to provide (and be paid for) CSA shares that go to those in need, or to sell your food to markets that you might even know exist.  Because most all of those that work with Growing Washington are young, learning farmers, we know that the last thing a farmer has access to during peak season is time.  It is our hope that we can assist local farmers by seeking out and creating new market opportunities while you are busy farming, that we can facilitate the exchange of goods for you, and that someday we can deliver food from your farm to an elementary school, a restaurant, to a community kitchen to be processed for a high school salad bar, and to a CSA recipient—all in one day on one delivery.

This packet is an opportunity for us to ask what food you, as a local producer, have to offer. In addition, this is an opportunity for your farm to connect to a new, flexible purchaser of quality local produce. For our Non-Profit, your participation means the ability to serve individuals, small businesses and institutions with local produce, the ability to help retain the solvency of local farms, and the ability to sustain ourselves through the value we add to the food. For you, a partnership with Growing Washington could merely mean making a few sales through the summer or something much, much more. We are interested in providing the structure for weekly sales through institutions like schools and cafeterias.

GW wants to help make Washington a better place for those who buy food as well as every one who grows it! We hope there is some way we can work together to make this happen. Please feel free to contact us if you have any feedback or questions. Thanks!
